A broken drum spider is one of the more serious mechanical problems that can affect a Samsung front-load washing machine. The drum spider is a metal support attached to the rear of the inner drum, allowing it to rotate smoothly during washing and spinning. Over time, corrosion, heavy use, or metal fatigue can cause the spider to crack or break completely.
Although it is technically possible to repair a broken drum spider yourself, the job is considered difficult and requires advanced mechanical skills, specialised tools, and considerable time. To access the drum spider, the washing machine must usually be almost completely dismantled. This involves removing the top cover, control panel, front panel, door seal, counterweights, suspension springs, motor, and outer drum before the inner drum can be removed.
Once the drum is removed, the damaged spider must be detached from the drum and replaced with a compatible new part. During reassembly, the drum bearings and seals should also be inspected because they often wear out alongside the drum spider. Replacing these components at the same time can help prevent future repairs.
